Choosing the right DTF machine can make or break your production workflow. We spoke to Paul Burgess, Sales Director at YES Group, to gather his expert insights on what buyers should consider before making their purchase.
According to Paul, the very first thing to consider is not features or price, but physical access and power requirements.
“We often get people asking about the Digital HeatFX 24H2,” Paul explains, “but once we talk about their premises, it turns out the machine won’t even fit through a standard doorway.”
It’s a common oversight. Larger machines also require more significant power supply infrastructure, which can add extra costs to the overall setup. Businesses without a three-phase power supply, for example, might be better suited to more compact solutions like the DTF Station R2 Pro Max, which still delivers outstanding quality without overloading your facility.
Thinking through space, layout, and available power early in the process will save time, money, and stress.
Another frequent mistake Paul sees is customers starting out with converted paper printers in an attempt to save money.
“They seem like a quick fix,” Paul says, “but within weeks, they often break down or can’t keep up with demand.”
This initial false economy leads many customers to seek an urgent upgrade. However, simply replacing the printer doesn’t address wider workflow problems, such as manual curing and inconsistent print quality.
That’s why YES Group only supplies the R2 Pro Max as a complete system, including the oven and stands – giving customers a plug-and-play setup designed for smooth, continuous production.
One of the biggest trends Paul warns against is using cheaper, third-party consumables – particularly film.
“Our machines are supplied with ICC profiles we’ve developed in-house, based on our film, ink, and powder,” Paul says. “If customers change even one of those elements, their colours and quality can suffer.”
These profiles are generated using a Spectrocolorimeter, which scans printed colour swatches and calibrates the RIP software to produce the most accurate and vibrant results possible.
By using lower-cost film or unverified ink, businesses risk:
Inaccurate colour reproduction
Reduced vibrancy and detail
Poor wash durability
Wasted time troubleshooting preventable issues
Paul is proud to say that YES Group’s complete solution recently took first place in the 2024 Best DTF T-Shirt Print Contest, recognised for colour accuracy, stretch, softness, and print consistency
For businesses unsure which machine is right, Paul recommends starting with two simple but important questions:
What is your average print size?
How many prints do you need to produce per day or week?
“Once we know that,” Paul says, “we can guide you to a system that suits not just your current needs, but where you want your business to go.”
At YES, the focus is on building long-term solutions that grow with the customer, avoiding the need to constantly upgrade or replace equipment as demand increases.
Choosing the right DTF system is not just about specs on paper – it’s about understanding how a machine fits into your actual workflow and goals. At YES Group, Paul and the team believe in asking the right questions and offering honest, tailored advice.
Whether you’re launching a new business or upgrading your production setup, the right machine – paired with the right support – can transform your output, efficiency, and reputation.
